PURPOSE: to amend Regulation (EC) No 1059/2003 on the establishment of a common classification of territorial units for statistics (NUTS) by reason of the accession of Bulgaria and Romania to the European Union.
LEGISLATIVE ACT: Regulation (EC) No 176/2008 of the European Parliament and of the Council amending Regulation (EC) No 1059/2003 on the establishment of a common classification of territorial units for statistics (NUTS) by reason of the accession of Bulgaria and Romania to the European Union.
CONTENT: Regulation (EC) No 1059/2003 established a common classification of territorial units for statistics (NUTS) for EU Member States. The Regulation was then amended by Regulation 1888/2005/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council due to the enlargement of the EU with 10 new Member States in 2004.
Because of the accession of Bulgaria and Romania to the European Union, this Regulation establishes the classification of the territorial units for Community statistics for these new Member States.
