PURPOSE: to codify legislation to approximate the laws of the Member States relating to trade marks.

LEGISLATIVE ACT: Directive 2008/95/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council to approximate the laws of the Member States relating to trade marks (codified version).

CONTENT: the purpose of this Directive is to codify Council Directive 89/104/EEC of 21 December 1988 to approximate the laws of the Member States relating to trade marks. The new Directive supersedes the various acts incorporated in it. It fully preserves the content of the acts being codified and hence does no more than bring them together with only such formal amendments as are required by the codification exercise itself.
