The European Parliament adopted, by 516 votes to 17 with 8 abstentions, a resolution approving the draft amendment of the Interinstitutional Agreement of 17 May 2006 (IIA) between the European Parliament, the Council and the Commission on budgetary discipline and sound financial management approving the amendment of the Interinstitutional Agreement as agreed upon at the conciliation meeting of 21 November 2008 (refer to the summary of the amended draft budget BUD/2008/2026).
The report had been tabled for consideration in plenary by Jo LEINEN (PES, DE) on behalf of the Committee on Constitutional Affairs.
The amendment aims to include a sentence in the IIA stipulating that the amount of the Emergency Aid Reserve shall be exceptionally increased to EUR 479.218 million for the year 2008 in current prices. This amount will cover the needs of the new Food Facility for rapid response to soaring prices in developing countries.
