EC/Tajikistan Partnership and Cooperation Agreement: accession of Bulgaria and Romania to the EU. Protocol

PURPOSE: to include Romania and Bulgaria in the Protocol to the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between the European Union and Tajikistan.

LEGISLATIVE ACT: Council and Commission Decision 2009/990/EC, Euratom on the conclusion of the Protocol to the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between the European Communities and their Member States, of the one part, and the Republic of Tajikistan, of the other part, to take account of the accession of the Republic of Bulgaria and Romania to the European Union.

CONTENT: the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA) between the European Communities and their Member States, of the one part, and the Republic of Tajikistan, of the other part, signed in Luxemburg on 11 October 2004 entered into force on 1 January 2010 (see AVC/2004/0176).

In parallel, a Protocol to this Agreement, with a view to taking account of the accession of Bulgaria and Romania to the European Union, was signed on behalf of the Community and the Member States on 24 June 2008.

This decision aims to approve this Protocol on behalf of the Community, the European Atomic Energy Community and the Member States and to apply it provisionally, from the same date (01.01.2010).
