LEGISLATIVE ACT : Treaty of Accession of Cyprus, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Slovenia to the European Union.
CONTENT : The Treaty of Accession extends the European Union to ten new Member States from 1 May 2004. The new Member States are the Czech Republic, the Republic of Estonia, the Republic of Cyprus, the Republic of Latvia, the Republic of Lithuania, the Republic of Hungary, the Republic of Malta, the Republic of Poland, the Republic of Slovenia and the Slovak Republic.
The conditions of admission and the adjustments to the Treaties on which the Union is founded, entailed by such admission, are set out in the Act annexed to the Treaty. The provisions of that Act shall form an integral part of the Treaty.
The Treaty must be ratified by the existing Member States and the ten new Member States in accordance with their respective constitutional requirements.
ENTRY INTO FORCE : the Accession Treaty enters into force on 1 May 2004. From that date, the European Union will have 25 Member States.�
