Appointment of the Chairperson of the European Statistical Governance Advisory Board (ESGAB)

PURPOSE: to appoint the Chairperson of the European Statistical Governance Advisory Board.

PROPOSED ACT: Council Decision.

ROLE OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT: the Council adopts the act after consulting the European Parliament but without being obliged to follow its opinion.

BACKGROUND: on 24 January 2012, the Council adopted Decision 2012/42/EU appointing Mr Thomas WIESER as the Chairperson of the European Statistical Governance Advisory Board for a period of three years from 23 March 2012.

It is therefore necessary to appoint a new Chairperson to take office upon expiry of the term of office which began on 23 March 2012.

CONTENT: it is proposed that Mr. Martti HETEMÄKI be appointed Chairperson of the European Statistical Governance Advisory Board for a period of three years from 1 February 2015.
