The European Parliament adopted a resolution tabled by the EPP, S&D, ALDE and Greens/EFA groups on the funding of political parties and political foundations at European level.
Members regretted the numerous shortcomings of Regulation (EU, Euratom) No 1141/2014, especially in respect of the level of co-financing (own resources), and of the possibility of multi-party membership of Members of the European Parliament. It encouraged the Commission to take a closer look at all the shortcomings and to propose a revision of the regulation as soon as possible.
Parliament recalled that the funding of European political parties and foundations should support political activities in line with the principles of the Union and be transparent and not open to abuse.
