Arrangement with Iceland on the modalities of its participation in the European Asylum Support Office

PURPOSE: to conclude the Arrangement between the European Union and the Republic of Iceland on the modalities of its participation in the European Asylum Support Office.

PROPOSED ACT: Council Decision.

ROLE OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT: Council may adopt the act only if Parliament has given its consent to the act.

BACKGROUND: the Arrangement between the European Union and the Republic of Iceland on the modalities of its participation in the European Asylum Support Office has been signed subject to its conclusion.  The Arrangement should be approved.

CONTENT: the purpose of the draft Council is to approve, on behalf of the Union, the Arrangement between the European Union and the Republic of Iceland on the modalities of its participation in the European Asylum Support Office.

The Arrangement provides for Iceland's full participation in the activities of the Support Office, its representation in the Support Office's Management Board as an observer and without voting rights and its annual financial contributions to the budget of the Support Office by an annual sum calculated in accordance with its GDP as a percentage of GDP of all States participating in the Support Office's work.
