EU/Bangladesh Agreement: air services
The European Parliament adopted by 562 votes to 17, with 3 abstentions, a legislative resolution on the draft Council decision on the conclusion of the Agreement between the European Union and the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh on certain aspects of air services.
Parliament gave its consent to the conclusion of the Agreement.
As a reminder, the Commission negotiated with Bangladesh an agreement which replaces certain provisions of existing bilateral air services agreements between Member States and Bangladesh.
On 7 June 2024, the European Union and Bangladesh signed the Agreement between the European Union and the People's Republic of Bangladesh on certain aspects of air services. On 6 September 2024, the ambassadors of the Member States to the EU (Coreper) approved the conclusion of the horizontal aviation agreement between the European Union and Bangladesh.
By granting all EU air carriers non-discriminatory access to routes between the EU and Bangladesh, this agreement promotes competition on air routes between the EU and an important EU partner from Asia and will, consequently, improve connectivity.
Standard EU clauses on aviation safety, aviation fuel taxation and compatibility with competition rules are included in the agreement, to ensure compatibility of the bilateral air services agreements with EU policies and standards.
