Schengen: second generation information system SIS II, development. Initiative Belgium and Sweden

PURPOSE : to replace the Schengen Information System by a new system. COMMUNITY MEASURE : Council Regulation 2001/2424/EC on the development of the second generation Schengen Information System (SIS II). CONTENT : The current SIS is replaced by SIS II, which will allow for new Member States to be integrated into the system. The SIS II, which will be a single integrated system, will be developed by the Commission in accordance with this Regulation, using the management procedure, except in certain specified matters, where the regulatory procedure will apply. A progress report will be submitted every six months to the Council and Parliament. ENTRY INTO FORCE : 14/12/01. DATE OF EXPIRY : 31/12/06.�
