Information society, eEurope: Community statistics

2003/0199(COD)
The European Commission agrees to take into account all the amendments adopted by the European Parliament. These include editorial changes in order to clarify the text, make the goal of the manual more explicit and clarify in particular that only aggregate data shall be transmitted under this Regulation. In addition, another amendment aims to make the distinction between mandatory requirements for the eEurope benchmarking process and less strict requirements for Structural Indicators. Other changes include : - sharpening the scope for the implementing measure; - ensuring the quality of results; - stipulating that the restrictions to three regions will not hamper the process of developing Information Society statistics over the set time frame; - introducing a comprehensive summary on what is expected from the module. Lastly, the Commission states that it would have preferred not to regulate the execution of pilot studies but can accept the proposal, as it will contribute to ensuring the quality of the results.
