Transport of dangerous goods by rail

The committee adopted the recommendation for second reading (under the codecision procedure) by Kostas HATZIDAKIS (EPP-ED, GR) approving the Council's common position on amending Directive 96/49/EC on the approximation of the laws of the Member States with regard to the transport of dangerous goods by rail. The report stressed that the safe transport of these goods was in the interests of the general public. The committee took the view that the common position could be adopted unamended, as Council had incorporated the Commission's proposals in its final text and had introduced only minor changes. �
