EC/Slovakia Europe agreement: additional Protocol

OBJECTIVE: conclusion of an Additional Protocol to the EU/Slovak Republic Europe Agreement. COMMUNITY MEASURE: Council and Commission Decision 96/300/Euratom, EC concluding the Additional Protocol to the EU/Slovak Republic Europe Agreement. SUBSTANCE: the Protocol is concluded for an unlimited period and covers areas of exclusively Community competence. It is intended to associate the Slovak Republic with various Community programmes and initiatives in the following fields: - research and technological development (Fourth Framework Programme of Research and Technological Development), - information services, - the environment (LIFE), - education, training and youth (SOCRATES, LEONARDO, Youth for Europe III), - social policy and health, - consumer protection, - small and medium-sized enterprises, - tourism, - culture, - the audiovisual sector (MEDIA programme), - civil protection, - trade facilitation, - energy (THERMIE, ALTENER, SAVE), - transport, and - the fight against drugs and drug addiction. The parties may agree to add other fields to those listed above. An Association Council is to decide the terms and conditions for the participation of the Slovak Republic in the various programmes listed. Slovakia is itself to meet the costs resulting from its participation and, if necessary, the Commission may decide, on a case-by-case basis, to pay a supplement to Slovakia's contribution. ENTRY INTO FORCE: two months after the date of notification by each party of the procedures necessary for that purpose. �
