By adopting the report by Mr Salvador Garriga Polledo (PPE, E), Parliament endorsed the
Commission proposal on the implementation of Member States' action programmes on control of
EAGGF Guarantee Section expenditure. The EP supports the Commission's new approach whereby
most of the funds will be used to finance proposals likely to enhance the range and quality of fraud
prevention measures. It is suggesting, for example, that the Community financial contribution should
not exceed 80%. Multi-annual or innovative programmes, those aimed at providing better training
and information for inspectors, and programmes designed to intensify the exchange of information
and cooperation among Member States should be treated as the priorities. Lastly, the EP is calling
on the Commission to report to the EP and the Council on the implementation of the Regulation, in
the first instance at the end of its second year in force.
