Arrangements for the management of fishing effort in the Baltic Sea

1996/0244(CNS)
By adopting the report by Mr Heinz KINDERMANN (PSE, D), the European Parliament approved the proposal for a regulation with the following amendments: -the Member States may include other vessels in the lists of named vessels even if fishing rights did not previously exist, the aim being not to restrict fishing effort excessively; -as regards the definition of fisheries in the Baltic Sea, Parliament greatly simplifies the annex by authorizing the use of all types of gear to catch the target species (rather than specifying, as the Commission proposes, one type of gear for a given species).
