In adopting the report by Mr Spalato BELLERE (NI, I), Parliament approved the common position
of the Council while calling for more stringent tests for motor vehicles having at least four wheels
used for the road carriage of goods or for the carriage of passengers and with a mass not exceeding
3 500 kg. Such vehicles should be tested three years (instead of four years) after the date on which
the vehicle was first used, and thereafter every year (instead of every two years). In addition,
Member States should ensure that vehicles that do not meet minimum requirements regarding
braking systems and emissions are removed from circulation.
