Products of animal origin intended for human consumption: animal-health rules

2000/0181(CNS)
The European Parliament adopted a resolution drafted by Heinz KINDERMANN (PES, Germany) on products of animal origin intended for human consumption. (Please refer to the document dated 03/12/01.) Members stipulated that the Commission must draw up a list of categories of possible infringements of the Regulation and determine whether the infringements are punishable by the competent national authorities under criminal or administrative law. With regard to the rules applicable to imports, products from third countries must comply with rules on production and marketing of Community products. Parliament added that where these rules are stricter than those laid down by the International Office of Epizootic Diseases (OIE), specific provisions must make it possible to take account of the extent to which developing countries that export into the EU are able to comply with such rules, without endangering the objective of a high level of animal and human health production.
