Conservation of fishery resources: protection of juveniles of marine organisms

PURPOSE : to amend Regulation 850/98/EC for the conservation of fishery resources through technical measures for the protection of juveniles of marine organisms. COMMUNITY MEASURE : Council Regulation 1459/1999/EC amending Council Regulation 850/98/EC for the conservation of fishery resources through technical measures for the protection of juveniles of marine organisms. CONTENT : this Regulation aims to definitively lay down the conditions for the use of certain combinations of mesh size referred to until now in Regulation 850/98/EC. The Regulation lays down a series of measures by linking the foreseen measures to the new arrangements aimed at strengthening the control measures. It is thus foreseen that in order to ensure effective control, monitoring and enforcement of these rules and of fishing voyages that cover more than one region or geographical area, mandatory use of the logbook should be extended to include fishing vessels that have hitherto been exempt from this obligation.
