Agricultural and forestry tractors: EC type-approval (repeal. Directive 74/50/EEC)

PURPOSE : to recast Directive 74/150/EEC on the type-approval of agricultural and forestry tractors and extends EC type-approval to new types of agricultural and forestry tractors. COMMUNITY MEASURE : Directive 2003/37/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council on type-approval of agricultural or forestry tractors, their trailers and interchangeable towed machinery, together with their systems, components and separate technical units and repealing Directive 74/150/EEC. CONTENT : the Directive recasts Council Directive 74/150/EEC on the type-approval of agricultural and forestry tractors. The Directive seeks to extend EC type-approval to new types of agricultural and forestry tractors, particularly 'high speed' tractors, their trailers and some interchangeable towed equipment which can be assimilated to trailers. In contrast with Directive 74/150/EEC, which has had only an optional character up to now, the proposal for a directive is based on total harmonisation. As soon as the directive enters into force, new types of agricultural and forestry vehicles will have to meet harmonised technical provisions and the Member States' national requirements will no longer apply. ENTRY INTO FORCE : 09/07/2003. IMPLEMENTATION : 31/12/2004. Directive 74/150/EEC shall be repealed with effect from 01/07/2005.�
