The Commission considers that the Council's common position has followed and built on the opinion of the European Parliament which, at its first reading, asked in particular for type C inspection bodies to be done away with, for procedures to be introduced for reassessing the existing equipment and for a delay in applying this Directive. The other notable amendments incorporated in the common position are consistent with the objectives of the Commission's proposal and take account of certain provisions of Directive 97/23/EC relating to (fixed) pressure equipment. Accordingly, the Commission supports the common position.�
