The European Parliament approved the proposal for a directive. The amendments by the European Parliament call for:
- easier access to the entire European network of high-speed trains for users and for the interoperability of ticketing, reservation and information systems to be guaranteed;
- Switzerland and the central and eastern European countries to be involved in achieving interoperability;
- training programmes for drivers and maintenance staff of high-speed trains to be harmonised;
- the Commission to report to the Council and the European Parliament on progress achieved towards the interoperability of the network every two years.�
