PURPOSE: to conclude, on behalf of the European Union and its Member States, of a Protocol amending the Euro-Mediterranean Aviation Agreement between the European Union and its Member States, of the one part, Jordan, of the other part, to take account of the accession to the European Union of Croatia.
PROPOSED ACT: Council Decision.
ROLE OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT: Council may adopt the act only if Parliament has given its consent to the act.
BACKGROUND: the Euro-Mediterranean Aviation Agreement between the European Union, its Member States and Jordan was negotiated on the basis of the Council Decision adopted in October 2007 authorising the opening of negotiations.
In accordance with a Council Decision, the Protocol amending the Euro-Mediterranean Aviation Agreement between the European Union and its Member States, of the one part, and Jordan, of the other part, to take account of the accession to the European Union of Croatia has been signed, subject to its conclusion.
It is now necessary to approve the Protocol on behalf of the Union.
CONTENT: with this proposal, the Council is invited to approve the Protocol amending the Euro-Mediterranean Aviation Agreement between the European Union and its Member States, and Jordan.
