PURPOSE : to establish the rules on uniform formats for Facilitated Transit Documents (FTD) and Facilitated Rail Transit Documents (FRTD) provided for in Regulation 693/2003/EC.
COMMUNITY MEASURE : Council Regulation 694/2003/EC.
CONTENT : Council Regulation 693/2003/EC established a FTD and FRTD for the case of specific transit by land of third country nationals who must necessarily cross the territory of one or several Member States in order to travel between two parts of their own country which are not geographically contiguous.
This Regulation establishes uniform formats for these documents.
The Commission will decide further technical specifications for the uniform format, such as additional security features and requirements including anti-forgery standards. The latter will be assisted by a Committee established by Article 6 of Regulation 1683/95/EC.
These specifications will be secret and will not be published. They will be made available only to the bodies designated by the Member States as responsible or printing, and to duly authorised persons.
The need for the incorporation of a photograph, which is referred to in the Annex, may be determined by the end of 2005.
