The Commission's amended proposal incorporates all the European Parliament's amendments seeking to:
- replace the term "physical inspections" by the broader term "quality inspections", which covers both physical and microbiological checks;
- clarify the purpose of the check on geographical destination by making a distinction between a product in transit and a product actually imported into the territory of the European Union.
However, the Commission rejected the amendment seeking to insert a new paragraph 3a under Article 16, stipulating that the Member States must ensure that the methods of analysis needed for the checks are standardised.
